Music & Drama Ministry

A Music Ministry that Touches Everyone……  Music is central to the worship life of Overbrook Baptist Church.  Each worship service begins with “Praise Song” consisting of favorite hymns, praise choruses, inspirational and contemporary music.  An effort is made to provide a balanced blend of traditional and contemporary worship.  Our whole service is prayed over daily and is brought before the church as an offering of praise to God. Our Music Ministry involves the very young through our Preschool Choir and Children’s Choir to adults of all ages through our Sanctuary Choir, Men’s and Women’s Ensembles, Handbell Choir, instrumentalists and vocalists. Sanctuary Choir This 25+ voice choir leads in worship at the 11:00 am service.  They share through many varied musical styles and use a vast mixture of instruments to accompany them.  The Sanctuary Choir also works on special presentations throughout the year.  Nursery care is provided.  Involvement in this ministry is open to all who love to sing. Joyful Bells This ensemble is composed of three octaves of hand bells.  They perform regularly in worship services and other special opportunities.  Nursery care is provided. Involvement in this ministry is open to all who love to play the bells. Acoustic Soul This ministry is a small group of Guitarist and Vocalists who share in the music and worship atmosphere at Overbrook.  The members provide inspiring and varied music at numerous times throughout the year.  Nursery care is provided.  Involvement in this ministry is open to all who love to play guitar or love to sing or do both.  Drama Ministry The Drama Ministry is a vital part of our worship ministry led by Claire Hamilton, an OBC member.  This ministry leads in worship through the use of various forms of visual arts.  The Drama Ministry is comprised of many participants/actors of all ages. Youth Praise Team All young people (6th-12th grade) are invited to participate in this music ensemble.  They perform all kinds of music throughout the year in the worship services.    Preschool Choir This choir is the first step of musical education at Overbrook Baptist Church.  It is designed for 2 and 5 year olds.  They learn fund songs and start to develop basic music skills.  They participate in worship services from time to time, but focus mainly on the enjoyment of music and how God uses music to speak to them.  Young Musicians This choir is for children in 1st-5th grades.  They work on a variety of music, preparing an annual musical in addition to participating in worship services throughout the year.  Fun and musical development move forward rapidly with this exciting choir. Special Musical Events The Music Ministry of Overbrook Baptist Church performs annual special musical presentations.  For Christmas 2003 we are presenting “The Story Of Christmas”, a full-scale musical drama.The music and drama ministries of OBC has designed this as an outreach ministry to the community.  This past Easter 2003, OBC Music and Drama ministries presented “God For Us” with testimonies and banners. What a wonderful experience this way in feeling the presence of God and viewing His Glory.  Rehearsal Schedule Wednesday 6:15 PM – Handbell Choir 6:45 PM – Preschool Choir Children’s Choir 7:15 PM – Sanctuary Choir Drama rehearsals, instrumentalists, soloists and  ensemble practices are scheduled as needed.
