Ministry
|
Why are
missions and ministry important?
|
"The
call to salvation and the call to ministry is one and the same call. That is, when one is
called by God to be a part of his people, he/she is also called into the ministry."
- Findley Edge from The Greening of the Church |
Missions
and ministry is the heartbeat of our faith community. We have a solid foundation of
ongoing mission and ministry projects and we are constantly scanning the horizon of our
community to find new opportunities to serve our neighbors in the name of Christ.
This website
represents a snapshot of our mission and ministry involvement. As our heart grows and our
hands multiply, God will open new avenues of service and the people of Overbrook will
respond to His call.
Missions Committee
Our
Missions Committee guides Overbrooks activity in the world. Its purpose is to
heighten congregational awareness and participation in local, state, national and
international missions. This group of men and women are ultimately responsible for
missions education, but also they manage the ongoing mission projects of our church. Our
Missions Committee meets on a regular basis to dream and implement ways to extend our
heart and hands to the world in which we live.
Mission Action is also performed by our Sunday School Classes, our Youth Ministries,
Childrens Ministries, our Senior Adults and a host of individuals who are engaged in
specific needs in our community. They serve as an expression of their Christian witness -
their desire to "be a people on mission."
Missions Projects &
Partnerships
These
are church wide efforts that give the congregation "hands-on" opportunities to positively influence the community.
Deacon Ministry Teams
Deacon Ministry Teams
guide the deacons at Overbrook. A Deacon Ministry
Team is
made up of one or more deacons and other interested members of the congregation. Together
they address a specific need in our church family or in the community. Presently, our
Deacons are responsible for four major ministries:
Hospital
Members who are in
the hospital are visited by members of this team during their stay and upon their return
home.
|
Homebound
Those in our
congregation who are no longer able to attend services are kept in contact with by members
of this team.
|
|
Outreach
Members of
the Outreach Team look for ways to share the good news with our community and make sure
that our congregation is a welcoming and caring body of believers. |
Lay Shepherding
The Deacons are
responsible for enlisting, training and keeping accountable those who are Lay Shepherds.
Lay Shepherds are trained members of Overbrook who are responsible for keeping in contact,
praying for and being available to small groups of households placed under his or her
charge. |
